F1 SAFETY CAR. When the safety car is in use does the driver have to drive flat out when not near the accident

Is the Safety Car driver governed by strict rules about his speed when leading the F1 cars around the track or does he have to drive flat out when not near the accident. Who drives the car, is it a current or past racing driver?|||The safety car is driven by Bernd Maylander a former touring car driver.

These cars are high powered and can easily cruse


at 150 mph,so they can easily keep up with trailing


F 1 cars that are just cruising behind it.|||Yes. The safety cars top speed is so much less than an F1 car it has to be driven flat out to try and keep the F1 cars brakes and tyres at an acceptable temperature for them to operate|||Well the safety car has a top speed of about 186mph, so on the straight it doesn't hold the F1 cars up too much, but its in the corners, thats where it slows the F1 cars down.





Personally, I think its stupid using a merc SL63, it would be better to use an SLR, the SL doesn't corner very well.
