What if the car is really due for a pitstop during Safety Car period?

and the pits is still closed?

They should revise F1 rules during safety car periods more? and allow cars that are really dew for their pitstop...

What are your views?

poor quick nick...|||.

I think that the race officials should be informed of a pit-stop.

Let's say they want to pit on lap 21, they can inform that their car is due to pit between lap 20 and 22 allowing a three lap margin (maybe even 5).

If the safety car comes out then they have the choice to still pit within those chosen laps or stay out and re-submit. If they don't inform of a change they incur a drive-thru penalty..

Only a half-baked thought....whaddya think?

.|||It's a good idea but strategies are flexible and can change mid race.

Of course teams could inform the stewards of any change but sometimes the strategy is in the air till the last minute before the cars pit.

In the absence of any other viable solution though it should suffice.

|||If the car is due for pitting they should be allowed to pit with no penalty. To be allowed to due this I believe the team should submit some data to the stewards to prove they are actually light on fuel. After this the stop should be approved and allowed to occur. I am not sure if that could be done fast enough to not run out on track. Also I heard that the teams build their own fuels cells which could cause problems because of the different sizes.|||this rule is just stupid it really is, i can understand that you have to make sure that the minimum number of people are in the pit lane at anyone time and that the safety needs to be able to exit the pitlane un molested so to speak.

But to penalise a driver for needing fuel when the safety car is well and truly clear of the pits is just a joke, it should be that as soon as the safety car has cleared the pits then the pits are declared open and cars can enter and exit at will. The other annoying thing about this rule is that the FIA will know how much fuel all the top ten placed drivers are carrying and when the pit stops will be taking place so they would have known that Hiedfeld was right on the limit when he pitted!!|||I really don't care if there is an easy solution or not, I personally think what's happened to Heidfeld today and a couple others earlier this year is unacceptable.

From the driver's point of view, from a teams point of view and a spectators point of view.

I mean Heidfeld and his team were busting their as*es all weekend preparing for an hour an a half of action and got penalized for what?

When I saw what happened I was extremely dissapointed .

So I don't care how they fix it, as long as they fix it.

Crap like that is a big let down for everyone.|||I think in situations like this wher Heikki had what looked like a serious accident, I think it's only right and respectful not to mention wise from a safety point of view. But if a driver was due to pit he should not be penalised if he takes his due stop. Any who size the opportunity should b penalised.|||they will say that having all cars pit at once under a yellow leads to a dangerously over crowded pit lane with cars stacked up in the pits, but the real answer is even worse, its the same answer as to why the options tires don't have a different side wall instead of a white strip in the groove, and that answer is????????

they don't want to do anything that may be seen as copying indycar, so instead nick takes a penalty, and us the fans get to watch low speed parade laps instead of a massive pit battle|||The stewards should have let him off since they opened the pits during the yellow flag shortly after anyway.|||i do agree with that they should revise the rule but again coming from another view

if you could pit during the safety car then every1 will do it and it is not as fun|||I agree. these rules should be reviewed. It was not fair for nick to be penalised because Heikki had an accident.|||yah! that is unfair. change the rules!
