Do body kits reduce the safety of a car?

If you install a body kit to a car would this make it not as safe as it would be with the original parts?|||Sure if it falls off. Really if its installed correctly it wouldn't do anything good or bad as far as safety.|||If installed incorrectly, body kits can reduce the safety of a car. There are many cheaply made body kits. These tend to crack and chip easily and aren't worth the money. However, if you do get a reputable kit and have a professional install it, there shouldn't be any difference in safety. Most of the safety in cars comes from airbags and the overall structure and unibody of the car. And besides, many people believe that putting body kits on cars will make them go faster or look cooler. On most cars, body kits do very little to improve performance, and can actually decrease performance.|||They do. Body kits can dangerously lower the ground clearance of a vehicle. During a hard turn, these can scrape the ground and reduce the grip of the wheels, thus leading to more flip overs and spin outs.

On impact with the ground, they can also "fall" off the vehicle, which can cause loss of control when it becomes wedged in the wheels.

If it does fall off, it can also cause accidents with the vehicle behind you as well.

Basically put, they're unsafe. It's also questioned as to whether or not it evern improves performance at all.
