It's for science coursework, and i have to compare the safety features of a modern car with a very early car.|||Early cars had no safety features, except windscreen wipers, headlights, and horns.
Modern cars have two types of safety feature, dynamic and passive.
Dynamic features are safe handling suspensions, ABS (antilock braking system), traction control, and ESC (electronic stability control).
Passive systems include air bags, seat belts, head restraints, shatterproof windscreens, injury protection interiors, crash absorbent body designs, and crumple zones.|||Very early cars were basic. Safety was not a major concern because, quite frankly, they didn't go very fast.
Basic safety features include: front and rear crumple zones, padded dash and steering wheel, collapsible steering wheel column, and safety belts.
More modern safety features include: air bags, ABS, traction control, seat belt pretensioning systems, electronic stability program (often called ESP by some manufacturers), night vision systems, smart cruise control systems (usually radar based to avoid other cars in front), and a whole bunch more being introduced on new models yearly.|||Here are a number of features that new / modern cars that contribute to making them safer versus old cars. Not all of these are specifically safety features, but many are.
ABS breaks
Seatbelts
Front and side impact zones
Airbags
Limited slip differentials
Shatterproof windshields
There are other things that are just better that have contributed to making cars safer, as well, such as better lights for better visibility, better tires for increased traction, ext.|||well by very early i would assume you're talking about like the 1927's or so...
old: handle drive gears (use handles to move the car), thin tires, not so good mechanics for the engine, no airbags, no seatbelts, no side airbags...literally NOTHING really
new cars: airbags almost all over the car, beeping alarms to let drivers know how close they are to other cars, brake assist which detects items and helps the car to brake safer, power steering, power brakes, anti-lock brakes, ignition cut-off, safer materials used, bigger tires for better stopping...i mean the list is pratically a mile long. lol|||Probably comparing cars as the decades pass. Improvements were not overnight, but after decades of development.
Seat belts (keeps passengers from rattling around in the car)
Radial tires (improves handling)
Power steering
Power brakes
ABS brakes
Disc brakes
Split braking systems (front separate from rear)
Turn signals
Automatic transmissions (less concentration on shifting gears)
Daytime running lights (increases visibility especially at dawn and dusk)
Safety glass
Cushioned dashboards
Airbags
Self-locking passenger doors (on some models)
Computer monitoring systems (monitor tire pressures for one)
Child safety seats and anchor points|||Ford Model T (1910-1927)
No seat belts or air bags
No doors on some cars
No heat or air conditioning
No windows on some models
No electric windshield wipers or defroster
No hydraulic brakes
No power assisted brakes or steering
No electric starter. (Hand crank for engines caused many injuries)
No safety glass
No bumpers on some models
No electric lights, turn signals or brake lights on some models
Poor quality tube type rubber tires.
I'm sure there are more differences if you'd care to look for them.|||Well seat belt to start then there are airbags but those are now necessary since modern cars are like beer cans in a crash so they need those while back in the earlier cars they were made of steel and would drive away from a crash over the plastic in newer cars.|||Early car's weren't available with air bags, they weren't available with glass whipers, week socker, bad quality tires.|||air bags, seat belts, stronger glass, better braking systems,
lighter cars to stop quicker, better mirriors, tires are better
