How they get selected?, what are the requirements?|||i am an FIA sanctioned physician, upon the prodding of the owner of the local track where i race i went to our local FIA representative... there are several requirements... you need a certificate in BLS ( basic life support ) ACLS ( advanced cardiac life support ) ATLS ( advanced trauma life support )among other things...
they have a job application form and a list of requirements...once you have completed and submitted this you will be notified if your services are needed...
i dont have to tell you that there are many applicants...but you will be called to a lot of FIA sanctioned events though, not as glamorous as F1, but justa as exciting ( and dangerous )... karting, rallying, etc...
i imagine that the MD's doing F1 have been with the FIA for a very long time to get where they are... so if this is really your dream... just stick with it... because others have done it before you, im sure you can do it too...
good luck !|||My understanding is most track doctors (as in the MDs that rush to the drivers aid after a crash) have a background in emergency medicine.
If you're interested in the subject, "Rapid Response" by Stephen Olvey is a great read. He was Medical Director for many racing organizations, including Indianapolis Motor Speedway and CART.
