Does oversizing passenger car tires pose a safety risk?

My passenger car comes stock w/ 205-65-16. Would adding wider tires, say 215-65-16 pose any sort of safety hazard or possible damage to the automobile? The availability and price diff between the 205 and 215 is measureable. Thank you.|||no ..if anything you will have better traction and handling|||no it wont mater ,and you'll get better handling and traction by doing it|||That would not pose any risk at all in my opinion. Just to give you an example, my car's stock (oem) tire size is 205/50/17 on 17" rims obviously. I've since resized to 225/40/18 with the accompanying 18" rims of course. As long as you go to a reputable tire shop as well keeping your alignment %26amp; balancing correct, no problems should arise.|||that little of a diferance shouldnt hurt the car, but, you should probably have your brakes upgraded if u go much biger, more rotating mass to stop|||no differnce in so small a change... go ahead|||My only caution is that you check with the tire manufacture (website), or tire shop, to make the wider tires are designed to be mounted on rims you have. Sometimes wider tires need wider rims. If the tire is too wide for the rim, tire bead will not seat properly in the rim. This could to lead to leaks or, worst case, the tire coming off the rim while driving.|||NO AT ALL.
