Actually - from a carseat tech's perspective, I'd much rather see a child rear facing in a $35 cosco seat then forward facing in an more expensive seat.
your child is 75% safer rear facing until the age of 2 - and you can go beyond that. It's all crash dynamics. A childs head is huge compared to their body... in an accident, that huge force will move forward if forward facing, potentially, pulling the head off the spinal cord, internally decapitating the child.
So... as for which seat is the safest...
The safest seat is the seat that fits your car, and your child, and is in your budget, and that you rear face...
Some options -
evenflo triumph advanced, britax roundabout 50, britax marathon or boulevard, safety 1st alpha omega elite (has a 50lb forward facing limit), sunshine radian 65, 80, RXT, ... and there's more...
you can find the all at www.car-seat.org (it's a forum all about carseats)|||Without a doubt......Britex is the best. They are a little more pricey but it is worth it....it is your child. Actually, the new car seat has side impact protection. Britaxusa.com|||Britax is very good but sort of expensive. Since he/she can sit forward now, I really like the Graco nautilus. I have a britax and the nautilus. I think they are both nice, the nice thing about the graco is it has a cup holder and converts to just the booster seat when they are older. Plus, it is cheaper!|||I actually agree with the other two responses. Britax is one of the best car seat companies due to many things like safety, features, ratings, etc.
Although, the Nautilus is great as well. I would definitely go with a nice convertible car seat from either Britax or Graco. What I did was I went on findmycarseat.com and found the car seat reviews helpful. You get to see what other people think of them and whether or not they recommend them.
Hope this helps!|||I love my Britax Marathon - def worth the investment - so sturdy,.just a lil tricky to set up :)
